final goodbye

"I don’t want to say goodbye."
I stare long at your text,
Wondering why
In your final moments
You had to say this.

You’ve realized
That all the time in this world
Is slipping away,
Wanting time to pause.
But I said, “No, we must move on.”

“We have to move on. You too.”

Do you remember this?
On the verge of our separation,
I’m holding on by a thread,
The last remnant of our final days.
It sounded so familiar;
It took me a while to fathom
That you don’t want us anymore.
Therefore,
I’m letting go of what
I’ve held onto for so long—
Us.

Thank you so much for everything.

“I’ll remember you.”

This is it.
The end.
